Vas deference is the tube that carries sperms produced in the testes to the seminal vesicles.
For the purpose of birth control, this tube is cut and tied so that the passage of the sperms through ejaculating semen is stopped.
This minor operation done under local anaesthesia is called ‘Vasectomy’.
A small incision made in the skin of the scrotum.
The duct carrying the sperms from the testes to the penis is located.
A small section of the duct is cut and both the ends are tied separately.
Although the sperms continue to be produced in the testes they get reabsorbed by the body harmlessly.
The process of erection of penis and ejaculation of semen continues as before even after the vasectomy and there is no effect on strength of a person or his performance in love making.
After Vasectomy, barrier contraceptive measures should be continued for about 6 weeks till the sperms stored in the seminal vesicles are exhausted.
Absence of sperms in semen is confirmed by microscopic examination.
